Last week I shared the latest item in my newest collection – a green patterned kantha blanket. Many of you mentioned you’d never heard of kantha before so today I’m sharing more examples of kantha inspired decorating.
Kantha is a very simple type of embroidery used to sew pieces of worn saris together. Rather than throw out clothing, the women make beautiful pieces of a thin, quilt-type fabric primarily seen on blankets and pillows.
I’m totally loving this idea of laying a kantha blanket on each outside chair so everyone has their own to enjoy. The fabric is so soft and light weight – perfect for somewhat cool evenings.
Since a sari is made out of a variety of colors and patterns, you’ll find the fun prints reflected in bedding. They’re perfect for mixing and matching.
The reverse side of a kantha blanket is almost always a coordinating but different pattern and color. This bedspread uses the same color palette for both sides, but a different print. So you can go bold or discreet.
If you’re lucky, you’ll find the art of kantha used for furniture upholstery, like this charming love seat in a boho chic room.
I find the colors and patterns so pretty and interesting. I also treasure that women took the time to hand stitch each and every one. Aren’t these perfect for the summer season?
You’ll find more stores carrying items made with kantha fabric as it continues to rise in popularity. You’re sure to find a pattern and color to suit your mood!
